SHARR WHITE
Plays by Sharr White include: Six Years (30th Anniversary Humana Festival of New American Plays at Actors Theatre of Louisville, 2006 New York Foundation For the Arts Fellowship); Iris Fields (Lincoln Center Theatre Directors Lab, Key West Theatre Festival); Satellites of the Sun (finalist, Princess Grace Award); The Escape Velocity of Savages (Dr. Henry and Lillian Nesburn Award as part of the Julie Harris Award in Playwriting).
White’s Sunlight was commissioned by South Coast Repertory; workshopped at SCR’s 2008 Pacific Playwrights Festival and Marin Theatre Company’s 2009 Nu Werkz reading series; was a participant in the National New Play Network’s Continued Life Fund; and was a recipient of Marin Theatre Company's 2009 Skye Cooper New American Play Prize. Sunlight premiered in January, 2010 at Marin Theatre Company, with following productions at ArtsWest, in Seattle; Phoenix Theatre Company, in Indianapolis; and upcoming at New Jersey Repertory Company beginning July 8, 2010.
Sharr’s newest play, The Other Place, will receive its world premiere Off-Broadway at MCC Theatre in the spring of 2011, featuring Laurie Metcalf and directed by Joe Mantello. The Other Place received fall 2009 readings at The Lark Play Development Center in New York; at Oregon
Shakespeare Festival’s Black Swan reading series; at Jar
Second Sundays, in Los Angeles; and at MCC Theatre.
White is currently working on his second commission for South Coast
Repertory.
